Photos from the capital city of independent Macedonia - Skopje.
Population: Roughly 700,000.
This city has been constantly inhabited for the past 7,000 years, and is one of the oldest settlements in Europe.
Skopje is Macedonia's largest city and most important economic and business center. Nearly 80% of Skopje was destroyed by a devastating earthquake in 1963, and recently the government has begun a new project called "Skopje 2014", which aims to revitalize the city and bring back the flare that it was once known for. Dozens of new monuments, roads, a ski lift to the Millenium Cross, 400 new double-decker city buses, and many more projects are underway.
